http://www.richardherring.com/warmingup/warmingup.php?id=2583 I went to see "A Christmas Carol" in 3D at the IMAX tonight. I have to say it was more out of a desire to see some a 3D film rather than because I wanted to see Jim Carrey's take on this Dickens classic. It is a story I am more than familiar with, my favourite version being "The Muppet's Christmas Carol" which stayed true enough to the story, whilst adding a large degree of humour to what can be a bit of a dry and sanctimonious story. |

Last week, me and one of my friends were talking about how we were glad to only have three days of school this week, having off for Thanksgiving, and the day after. In this middle of the conversation, she stops by saying,
"Wait, why do we have off Thursday? I'm pretty sure Thanksgiving falls on a Friday this year."
*facepalm* |

| Mininova |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|02:47 am] |
Hey, musicians!
Mininova is only distributing legit content now, and they don't have lots of it (yet) but are still getting a lot of traffic (this may die away over time).
Now would be a really good idea to head on over there and upload your material to them, it's free and it looks like I just got 100 downloads in my first hour of ToRights being online there. Which is not to be sniffed at!
That, too, will die down when I'm no longer featured on the front page, but if I can get my music to another 1,000 people in a day, I'll be over the chuffing moon :) |

| We thought all the guys were just friendly! |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|10:24 pm] |
Recently been reminded of this one:
Three female friends of mine shared a flat in West London. Two of them were single so wanted to find themselves a man each. Frequently on weekends they would go drink at a pub somewhere locally.
After a couple years they were again single and decided to drown their sorrows again. I was visiting and asked if there weren't any nice blokes around the pub, seeing as they must have got to know the regulars prety well by now, going there two or three times a week.
"Oh, yeah, there's lots of guys who seem really nice, but they just never seem to be interested in that way, you know?" I found this hard to believe, so I asked them which pub it was. "The Birdcage. On the High Road."
Just a minute. The Birdcage? That wouldn't be the pub on the High Road with all the rainbow flags outside it, would it? And the rainbow pub sign? And the posters advertising AIDS benefits events? And regular drag nights?
Yes, that's the one. Why? You didn't think that the men there seemed very fond of each other? Holding hands, etc?
Eventually I had to spell out for them in words of one syllable that rainbow decor = gay pub and this might be not the best place for straight women on the pull... I have no idea how they could be so oblivious for so long; one had even gone there with her gay best mate and his boyfriend, and we grew up in Brighton, gay capital of England! |

WOW.
I need this so much.
This could revolutionise modelling for games.
Imagine if you paired it with a reprap. "hey, that thing's cool. I'd like one. pass it here a minute..." (scan/cleanup/duplicate).
FUUUUTURRRRRE! |

Parenthood has made me lousy at updating this. I've been meaning to post about this for a week...
This Sunday (29th November - probably "today" by the time you read this) I shall be back behind the decks at Black Sheep for the first time since Joshua was born.
Not content with one massive change in my life, I'm also intending to DJ using a laptop for the very first time in my life. I fully intend to do the whole of the night using only a laptop and without the use of a safety net*, so feel free to come along and point and laugh.
I should probably also admit that - beyond very nominally checking that the leads and software appear to work - I haven't broken the habit of a lifetime and actually practiced DJing this way, so hilarity may well ensue...
*unless you consider a big fight case of cds a "safety net", obviously. |

| banks are cunts, nobody is surprised. |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|05:38 pm] |
Just got some info out of the chirpy, helpful indian chap handling my bank's calls, then after he's answered my question I knew immediately that he was going to try to sell me something.
Didn't ask me if that was OK, but instead said that he had one final piece of pertinent information for me that would definitely help me with the problem i'd been having, and would it be alright to talk to me about that?
In my experience, they only need to ask you permission to continue when they're selling you something, but he was so carefully evasive about saying it was a product that I let him start talking just to be sure I wasn't actually just fucking off some useful information.
Then he gets into telling me how I've had an account with them for 15 years (good reason not to fucking irritate the customer, maybe?) but that I only have a basic current account. Ahhhhhhh, here we go.
Then he tells me that because of this, the rate on my overdraft is their maximum of a whopping 19.9%!
I'm not very on the ball and forget the difference between APR and AER/EAR, so I query this and say "but that sounds like credit card rates, that can't be right", and he heavily belabours that he has the figures right and reiterates this horrible 19.9% I'm paying... His tone of voice has changed from happy and friendly to maybe what he thinks is authoritative and intimidating. I assume the point is to make me think "SHIT! I'm pissing money! Sell me your product, oh bank-meister!"
So I hung up on him.
Quickly googled it and went "oh yeah, so that's 1.6% equivalent monthly compared to APR, sounds about right" (I mean, I knew something was wrong because I know what I pay in interest on my credit cards and I know how much goes out for interest on my overdraft, and there's a world of fucking difference). Good good.
Cheers for the blarney, Barclays. No, i don't want any more financial products off you, much obliged. |

http://www.richardherring.com/warmingup/warmingup.php?id=2582 Somehow my overindulgence and grouchiness last night did not lead to the mother of all hangovers. Despite consuming about two bottles of red wine and a dark Cheddar ale my head was pretty clear. Though I did get a good sleep in. Collings arrived at about 2 and we went to a local cafe for a sandwich, before heading up to the attic for podcast 92. I had forgotten that I had left it all in a bit of a tip after searching for posters of the shows I did at school last Friday. But it meant there was loads of childhood memorabilia all over the place. |
